For sure, if it ever got that far, it would be a problem.<br /><br />So many things are fine in theory, I suppose. Too bad we can't have utopia =/Roihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12843493558787262047noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6139899687962145177.post-27880582064234329632011-05-02T18:58:41.348-07:002011-05-02T18:58:41.348-07:00Sir Edward was actually jacking a quote from Heere...Sir Edward was actually jacking a quote from Heeren, which is as follows "Among all the considerable nations of Inner Asia, the paternal government of every household was corrupted by polygamy; where that custom exists, a good political constitution is impossible. Fathers being converted into domestic despots, are ready to pay the same abject obedience to their sovereign which they exact from their family and dependents in their domestic economy"<br /><br />There is pro-European bias, but I believe his point is still valid, and my earlier point was wrong, it wasn't polygamy that stagnated Islamic countries, it was Islam that did it, which condones polygamyBranthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12709296084637919494noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6139899687962145177.post-89458665636114413352011-05-02T18:50:57.569-07:002011-05-02T18:50:57.569-07:00I think the real problem with adultery is that it ...I think the real problem with adultery is that it would only work in a utopian, completely egalitarian society. If you read some books by Sir Edward Shepherd Creasy he details how one of the major reasons that Islam stagnated beyond the Dark Ages was because of polygamy. When you have polygamy, if one sex is in possession of more power, it will attract more wives or husbands (like racecars, homes, or speedboats that rich white men seem to have in abundance) and then you have a slippery slope, because if there is a male/female imbalance, then equality starts to slip. I will post another comment elaborating on my comment about Islam and stagnationBranthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12709296084637919494noreply@blogger.com
